2021 The Other Wine Co. Grenache
McLaren Vale
Juicy, vibrant & spicy.
45-year-old vines in McLaren Vale. Sandy soils. Low yields and handpicking. Open ferments, as a combination of whole berries and whole bunches.

Fruity or savoury? Why not have both. This McLaren Vale drop, made at Shaw and Smith, is all red plums and cherries on the nose and dried herbs, black plums and strawberries to taste. The inclusion of whole bunches gives it a little oomph, as does maturation in concrete and large oak barrels. A tight hug of spicy tannin to finish. Broody, yet very food friendly.

“Winemaker Matt Large has made an attractive, spicy example with earthy spice from fruit sourced from 45-year-old bush vines on Blind Spot vineyard at Blewitt Springs.”

This 2021 McLaren Vale Grenache hails from 45 year old bush vines in Blewitt Springs. The perfume is indicative of those sandy soils and open with violets, blueberries and intense blackcurrants. There is a layer of red fruits as well, macerated raspberry and cooked rhubarb with soft licorice, clove studs and vanilla seed. A compressed and weighty mid plate makes for sturdy drink making this a distinctive and bold wine with velvety tannins. Impossible not to love.

A silky, velvety grenache with aromas of redcurrants, plums, wet clay, white pepper, herbs and licorice. Some mocha, too. Supple and soft tannins here, with a medium body and smooth, succulent layers of herbs and spices. Delicious now.
