The Other Wine Co. Pinot Noir 2019 Reviews

Juicy, crunchy, almost crystalline red fruits (pomegranate, cranberry, dark cherry) waft out of the glass. The palate is fine layer on layer of silky tannin, baking spices and some blue and black fruits. Soft acid gives a graceful finish. It’s really quite sensual. Morgan Dunn, The Australian

Great value Tasmanian Pinot Noir is now rarer than ever. The world has finally woken up to how great Tasmanian Pinot Noir can be and is lapping it up. Enter the Shaw + Smith team with their purchase of the Tolpuddle Vineyard in 2011 in the Coal River Valley and the rest is history with the wine a leader in the new wave of top Tassie Pinot.
This wine is from the Coal River Valley, and Shaw + Smith’s dark side – the Other Wine Co – and while it does not say Tolpuddle on the label you’d have to think this is probably an early drinking style from the vineyard. It is bright mid cherry in colour with stalky, peaty, spicy, beetroot, black cherry fruits with a touch of wintergreens. It is then dry and elegant, even light-weight, with a much more savoury and brooding palate that you’d expect with layers of animal, earth, spice and mushroom soup. That slightly feral edge makes it quite delicious with a lingering and supple finish. Welcome to the dark side. 93 points, Angus Hughson
