The Other Wine Co. Cabernet Franc 2019
Devastatingly, the vineyard where this is sourced was hit by the bushfires in summer so we won’t be seeing any Cabernet Franc for at least a vintage or two. I do recommend seeking a bottle out. The aromatics hit you as soon as you twist the cap: juicy black and purple fruit, violets, dusty spices, chocolate ganache and a bouquet garni of fresh and dried herbs. Tannins are full but nimble and play a game of structural hopscotch with the palate. Morgan Dunn, The Australian
Solid release. Well shaped. Decent array of flavours. Berries and grasses, gum leaves and smoke. It’s good from the outset but a bit of air doesn’t do it any harm. In fact I moved from 90 to 91 to 92/100 through the course of tasting this; it’s a wine that sneaks up on you. 92 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
The Other Wine Co. Cabernet Franc 2018
This is a separate project by the guys at Shaw + Smith in the Adelaide Hills, whose mission is to make good, early-drinking wine from grapes and regions separate from their more serious flag-bearer. Cocoa powder, dry hanging herbs, Asian spice and fresh and desiccated red fruits show themselves in a finely scented nose. The texture is detailed and savory, a little dusty and a little juicy. The acid is bright and the concentration stains the palate pleasantly. I really could carry on about it. Morgan Dunn, The Australian
